Psilocybin

Psilocybin is a naturally occurring psychedelic substance found in mushrooms and truffles that are commonly referred to as magic mushrooms and magic truffles. Their psilocybin content is what gives them their psychedelic effect and their ‘magic’ title. Magic truffles are technically called sclerotia and they are at another stage in the life of the mushroom. We use truffles on our retreats as they are fully legal in the Netherlands.

Psilocybin has been shown to trigger lasting personality changes, improve mood and alleviate depression, reduce anxiety, stimulate creative insights, and reliably occasion mystical experiences.

Research

In a study at John Hopkins University, six months after a single large dose of psilocybin, participants reported:

  • 83% of participants reported increased well-being or life satisfaction
  • 67% of participants reported the experience as one of the top five meaningful experiences in their lives
  • 70% reported the experience as one of their top five spiritually significant lifetime events

Participants attributed improvements in attitudes about life, self, mood, relationships, and spirituality to the high-dose experience.

In 2018 the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted Breakthrough Therapy Designation for psilocybin-assisted therapy for treatment-resistant depression.

Safety

Psilocybin has been shown to be safe, non-addictive, and non-toxic. In a 2010 UK study, drug-harm experts ranked 20 illegal and legal drugs on 16 measures of harm to both the user and wider society. Psilocybin mushrooms ranked lowest, lower than both alchohol and marijuana.

About The Experience

There is no one typical psychedelic experience. A session can be blissful, terrifying, intense, deeply emotional or awe inspiring. The same single session can be all of these things. What are commonly seen as negative emotions can be great teachers and more challenging experiences can actually be the most beneficial. We are there for you to allow you to fully go with the experience, whatever comes up.
